Bucharest, SANA- Head of Romanian Senate Kalin Popescuta Riciano affirmed the importance of preserving Syrian sovereignty, pointing out that no country has the right to intervene in the affairs of other sovereign states.
Riciano’s remarks came during a meeting with a delegation from the Syrian People’s Assembly on the sidelines of 12th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) in the Romanian capital of Bucharest on Friday.
He pointed to Romanian people’s support to Syria and its people in their war on terrorism, referring to the historical ties binding Syria and Romania.
For his part, Syrian MP Hamed Hassan stressed the need to re-activate the Syrian-Romanian Parliamentary Friendship Association and form a friendship association in the Romanian Parliament to promote cooperation between the two countries, calling on the Romanian companies to participate in the reconstruction process in Syria.
The delegation also held a meeting with the Secretary-General of PAM, Sergio Piazzi, who affirmed his keenness to strengthen the relations between the PAM’s members for the benefit of the peoples.
During the meeting of the Third Committee of the Assembly on human rights and the dialogue of civilizations, Syrian MP Fihaa Traifi said that smuggling and destroying the Syrian monuments by terrorist organizations, especially Daesh (ISIS), is a crime against humanity as a whole and a destruction of Syrian cultural identity, calling for finding solutions to reduce this phenomenon.
She clarified that the terrorist organizations carried out systematic operations to obliterate the Syrian civilization, particularly Daesh, which destroyed and sold the antiquities, especially in the ancient city of Palmyra, pointing out to the sacrifices made by the Syrian Arab Army to restore the city of Palmyra and protect its ancient monuments.
