Damascus, SANA-UN envoy to Syria Staffan De Mistura arrived in Damascus Tuesday in his first visit to the country since he was appointed by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon following the resignation of former envoy Lakhdar Brahimi.
The international mediator is accompanied by the Egyptian diplomat Ramzi Ez Eddin Ramzi.
The UN announced on Monday that De Mistura’s tour will include other countries in the region.
Syria has welcomed the appointment of De Mistura as a special envoy for the UN to Syria, hoping his method would depend on objectivity, fairness, rules of international law and the UN charter, on top of them, the respect for national sovereignty and non- intervention in the domestic affairs.
