PAM Head: We exposed to pressure with regard to Syria’s participation in PAM activities

St. Petersburg, SANA – Sen. Francesco Amoruso Honorary President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) revealed that he was exposed to pressure during the preparations for PAM activities in the French city of Monaco with regards to the participation of Syria, clarifying that he objected the French authorities for preventing the Syrian delegation members from visas to attend PAM meetings in Monaco.

During his meeting with People’s Assembly’s delegation headed by Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh, in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, Amoruso pointed out that PAM rejects pressures as it had opened European communication channels with Syria when the US threatened Syria, stressing that PAM is interested in what is going on in Syria and asserts the need for a political solution to the crisis in the country.

He referred to the quick response of Syria to build relations with PAM and to have joint cooperation through the delegations that went to Syria for coordinating the humanitarian aid.

Amoruso welcomed Sabbagh’s invitation for visiting Syria any time, thanking Syria for combating international terrorism, which constitutes “a very important victory”.

For his part, Sabbagh expressed Syria’s pride for being an active member state in PAM, hailing the interest of PAM and Amoruso in what is going on in Syria.

He clarified that Syria has faced terrorist aggression by dark forces, but thanks to the resilience of the Syrian people, army and leadership it has been able to overcome the ordeal and defeat terrorism.
