Quneitra, SANA – The Israeli occupation authorities issued on Tuesday a sentence of 14-years imprisonment against Syrian detainee Sudqi al-Maqt after postponing his trial dozens of times.
Two days ago, al-Maqt sent a letter from inside al-Jalboua prison in the northern occupied Palestine in which he defied the Israeli occupation government and its media to dare to publish all the details of the case of his unjust, fabricated and politicized detention, including the confidential reports and recordings of calls in their possession.
He stressed in the letter his insistence on exposing the facts about the occupation authorities’ involvement in the shedding of the Syrians’ blood and the destruction of infrastructure and national economy to weaken the components of the Syrian state, saying that he is determined to continue telling the truth even if that would cost him his life.
Al-Maqt said he was sure that the so-called “central court in al-Nasira” would rule an unfair verdict against him with the aim of “preventing me from telling the truth and punishing me for exposing the support provided by the Israeli occupation authorities to the gangs of terrorism and criminality in Syria.”
Following the issuance of the unjust verdict, Quneitra Governor Ahmad Sheikh Abdul-Qader and the Committee for Supporting Liberated and Detained Syrian Captives in the Israeli Jails issued statements condemning in the strongest terms the decision against al-Maqt as “an act of reprisal that is based on no evidence…and is fundamentally politicized and contrary to the basic human rights and rules of international law.”
They called on the international human rights organizations to exert pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to stop their aggressive and oppression policies against the people of the occupied Golan and to annul the unjust and inhumane decision against al-Maqt.
Al-Maqt, a resident and freedom-fighter in the Israeli-occupied Golan, served the longest prison sentence in Israeli jails. He was re-detained by the Israeli authorities on February 25th, 2015, after he had already spent 27 years in Israeli prisons and was released in August 2012.
Israel continues to impose hostile and aggressive measures against the Syrian citizens in the Golan, occupied since 1967, in clear violation of the Geneva (IV) Convention relative to the protection of civilians under occupation.
