Defense Ministry calls upon neighboring countries to bolster joint cooperation against terrorism

Moscow, SANA – Deputy Defense Minister Major Gen. Mahmoud Abdul Wahab Shawa stressed the need to enhance joint cooperation among all countries to eliminate terrorism which threatens the entire world and adopt political, economic, cultural, media and security measures to prevent the spread of takfiri mentality.

Delivering a speech at the currently-held 6th Moscow Conference on International Security, Shawa underlined the urgent need to find effective ways to combat terrorism, dry up its resources and reduce its catastrophic repercussions, adding that fighting this phenomenon requires implementation of international laws and avoid double standards.

He said that the spread of international terrorism has been mainly attributed to the international community’s lack of seriousness and inability to halt violations of international laws and conventions.

Shawa highlighted the importance of signing security agreements with neighboring countries to cooperate in confronting terrorism and exchanging information to enhance mutual security interests, calling for monitoring communication networks, detecting the parties responsible for operating media outlets and holding them accountable for their deeds.

He reiterated Syria’s call upon the international community to shoulder its moral and humanitarian responsibilities towards the Syrian people and the peoples in the entire region who suffer from the plague of war, terrorism and destruction and to punish powers and systems which provide support terrorism and ignore all principles of international legitimacy.
